Stamp Out Hunger 2022

5/18/2022 (Permalink)

Heather and her helpers collecting blue bags!

We participated in the National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger event this year. It is the nation's largest one-day food drive every year. Letter Carriers deliver blue bags to every mailbox and residents were asked to fill the bags with nonperishable food.

We met at the Post Office and helped with the collection of the blue bags. There were also high school community volunteers that went with each adult as their helpers. We drove around different routes in front of the Letter Carrier to collect filled blue bags then delivered them back to the Post Office.

Steve Yager, the Regional Coordinator at The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri, said the community gave 7,000 pounds of food this year in one day. Awesome job, Hannibal!  We will certainly help again next year!

We are proud to be a winner of a 2021 BBB TORCH Award. SERVPRO of Hannibal specializes in the cleanup and restoration of residential and commercial property after damage. Our franchise was established in 2007. "As an owner of a small business, it is an honor to accept this award on behalf of our amazing staff,” owner Les Smith said. TORCH Awards honor businesses demonstrating high ethics in their treatment of customers, employees and suppliers. Toys for Tots 2021

11/24/2021 (Permalink)

For the third year in a row, SERVPRO of Hannibal is helping Douglass Community Services with Toys for Tots. The goal is to raise money and collect new toys that will later be distributed to children in Marion, Ralls, Monroe, Pike, Shelby, and Lewis counties.

Our Marketing Manager, Heather, has been taking donation cans and collection boxes around to different businesses in those areas. After a few weeks, we will then collect the cans and toys to take to the Douglass warehouse. The parents fill out forms about ages of their children and what they would like for Christmas. Our employees will volunteer and help pack boxes of toys and books for families. From there, we use our box truck to move the filled boxes to the Armory downtown for distribution. We will also have employees volunteering to pass the boxes out. We are thrilled to be part of such an amazing program that truly helps our surrounding communities!

Buddy Packs Program

10/26/2021 (Permalink)

We recently were able to give an afternoon to help prepare 2000 Buddy Packs in Hannibal at Douglass Community Services. Buddy Packs include nutritious items like granola bars, ramen, fruit cups, and other snacks for an easy-to-make meal.

Volunteers with local service clubs were in attendance representing Rotary Club, Lions Club, Early Bird Kiwanis, and Evening Kiwanis. Our Marketing Manager, Heather, was in attendance with Rotary Club of Hannibal. This is the first time having multiple service clubs help with the same community project. A local real estate company then distributed the Buddy Packs to area schools. The program runs from October to May.

If you have a community project or event that you need help with then please reach out to Heather. SERVPRO of Hannibal takes pride in helping our community!

Hannibal Chamber Women's Golf Tournament

9/28/2021 (Permalink)

These ladies won best dressed at the tournament!

Last Friday, SERVPRO of Hannibal sponsored a hole at the Hannibal Chamber of Commerce Women’s Golf Tournament.

This is the third year for the event and we have been a sponsor every year. We encourage women around the community to come enjoy a day of golf even if they have never played before. Each hole has a different activity or snack for the ladies to enjoy. This year, the theme was Disney so there were great costumes all around!

There was a nice boxed lunch before tee off. After the tournament, the women enjoyed appetizers on the patio and won door prizes.

SERVPRO of Hannibal loves to be able to participate in events throughout the community. If you know of a golf tournament or event coming up then contact our office ?? 573-231-0056

Back to School!

8/19/2021 (Permalink)

Have a wonderful school year!

SERVPRO of Hannibal wishes everyone a happy, healthy, and safe school year!

This year, we made two “new teacher” baskets to hand out to Hannibal and Bowling Green school districts. We wish you the best of luck and we know you will have a great year! Thank you for all the hard work that you do.

We also looked up school supply lists for Mark Twain Elementary, Mexico Elementary, and Knox County Elementary schools. We filled up new book bags with the supplies then delivered them to each campus. The staff was thrilled to receive them and be able to hand out to a student in need. These young students are our future leaders and we wish them all the luck in the world. They will grow up to do great things!

Why SERVPRO of Hannibal®? Locally Owned Company with National Resources

5/26/2021 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Hannibal is independently owned and operated by Les and Cindy Smith, lifelong residents of Hannibal. As a Franchise community, we have a very powerful, unparalleled network. This system allows us to truly be “Faster to Any Size Disaster.”

Large Loss Team

When we had a local farming equipment building suffer a fire, they called on us to clean up the damage. There was over 50,000 square feet of space that was affected. Our team was on site in a flash and began to scope the damage. We then called in our large loss team to help us clean up the mess so we could get the company up and running faster than other smaller companies with limited resources. We got their business back to preloss condition in record time and made it “Like it never even happened.”

If you have a fire or water loss, no matter the size, then trust your local heroes at SERVPRO of Hannibal to be there! 573-231-0056

Why SERVPRO of Hannibal? Severe Water Alerts

3/12/2021 (Permalink)

We are approaching the peak of tornado season and the next few days could bring an increased threat of storm and flooding to our area. SERVPRO of Hannibal constantly monitors the weather.

What do you do when the warning gets issued? If you’re at home go to your basement, cellar or saferoom if you have it. If you don’t then get to the lowest level of your home. From there, find an interior room with no windows, such as a bathroom, a closet or a long hallway. Corners attract debris, so try to huddle in the center of the room. Now that you are in the safest part of your house, focus on your body. Grab a blanket, a helmet or even a pillow to place over your head and neck to protect yourself from debris. If that’s not an option, get under a sturdy piece of furniture like a heavy desk or table. The key is to stay low to the ground and as far away from windows as possible.

Safety First: Before the Feast

11/12/2020 (Permalink)

Why SERVPRO of Hannibal? We care about you and your family. According to the NFPA, cooking is the main cause of home fires and injuries, with the Thanksgiving holiday being the peak day for cooking-related fire emergencies. Review the following safety tips to help ensure you can enjoy a safe holiday.

  • Never leave cooking food unattended. Stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, or broiling food. If someone must leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, they should turn off the stove.
  • Check food regularly while cooking and remain in the home while kitchen equipment is in use. Use a timer as a reminder that the stove or oven is on.
  • Keep anything flammable like pot holders, oven mitts, wooden utensils, paper or plastic bags, food packaging, and towels away from the stove, oven, or other appliances in the kitchen that generates heat.
  • Do not wear loose clothing or dangling sleeves while cooking.
  • Clean cooking surfaces on a regular basis to prevent grease build-up.
  • Purchase a fire extinguisher to keep in the kitchen year rounds. Contact the local fire department for training on the proper use of fire extinguishers if you are unsure.
  • Always check the kitchen before going to bed or leaving the home to make sure all kitchen appliances like stoves, ovens, and toasters are turned off.
  • Install a smoke alarm near the kitchen, on each level of the home, near sleeping areas, and inside and outside of bedrooms. Use the test button to check it is working properly every month. Replace the batteries at least once a year.

SERVPRO of Hannibal wishes you a safe and happy Thanksgiving and holiday season!

Why SERVPRO? We Care About Your Pets!

10/20/2020 (Permalink)

This is Mollie and Sophie!

Pets are just as important as any family member to most people, so why would you not make them a part of your preparedness planning? There are several things you can do to make sure they stay safe as well during an emergency.

Pet Emergency Kit

Ready.gov/animals lists the below items as essential to building your Pet Emergency Kit.

Food. At least a three day supply in an airtight, waterproof container.

Water. At least three days of water specifically for your pets.

Medicines and medical records.

Important documents like registration information, adoption papers, and vaccination documents. Talk to your veterinarian about micro-chipping and enrolling your pet in a recovery database.

First aid kit. Cotton bandage rolls, bandage tape and scissors; antibiotic ointment; flea and tick prevention; latex gloves, isopropyl alcohol and saline solution. Including a pet first aid reference book is a good idea too.

Collar or harness with ID tag, rabies tag and a leash.

Crate or pet carrier. Have a sturdy, safe crate or carrier in case you need to evacuate. The carrier should be large enough for your pet to stand, turn around and lie down.

Sanitation. Pet litter box if appropriate, newspapers, paper towels, plastic trash bags and household chlorine bleach.

A picture of you and your pet together. If you become separated, a picture of you and  your pet together will help you document ownership and allow others to assist you. Add species, breed, age, sex, color and distinguishing characteristics.

Evacuations

While practicing fire escape or evacuation plans, be sure to include pets. If an evacuation happens, don't leave pets behind as they can be lost or injured.

Our State Director, Richard Hastings, taught the course and it was held at the Mark Twain Museum in downtown Hannibal. Java Jive provided us with delicious hot coffee and a wonderful lunch spread.

Why SERVPRO of Hannibal? Community Involvement

1/10/2020 (Permalink)

This is one of our heroes, Doris! She took our box truck to the Toys for Tots warehouse to load up for the distribution site.

SERVPRO of Hannibal cares about our surrounding communities. We help in numerous ways for the Toys for Tots campaign. More than 1500 children in Northeast Missouri received gifts through this program this past holiday season. It is locally sponsored by Douglass Community Services and Hannibal Parks & Recreation with help from other businesses like us. The goal of the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them as gifts to less fortunate children in the community. Each child receives three toys, six books, and stocking stuffers. There were also coin cans and donation boxes in several counties and cities in the area.

SERVPRO of Hannibal helped in various ways.  We took some time to make these donation cans at Douglass Community Services. We also used our box truck and one of our vans to help move toys from their warehouse to the distribution site. On the distribution day, we sent some of our employees to volunteer to help the families pick out their gifts.

We like to give back to our community and better our community any way we can. SERVPRO of Hannibal cares!

Why SERVPRO of Hannibal? The Right Equipment

6/27/2019 (Permalink)

Detection Equipment

Scoping involves locating the areas of the structure affected by water and defining the extent to which the structure and contents have absorbed moisture. Moisture detection devices are also used to verify that an environment has been dried thoroughly. This includes moisture sensors, moisture meters, and thermohygrometers.

Extraction Equipment

The most effective method of removing moisture from a structure is extraction. This is why it is critical to respond quickly to a water damage and to provide emergency mitigation services. When the water is extracted quickly, the environment can usually be dried much faster. Extractors are used in cleaning carpets and upholstery and in removing water from floors following a water damage.

Air Moving Equipment

Air movers are used in water damage restoration to enhance evaporation at the surface level, thereby reducing drying time. As airflow at the surface level increases, the moisture in the air increases. This moisture is then eliminated via the use of dehumidification equipment.

Dehumidification Equipment

By extracting water vapor from the air, dehumidifiers lower the relative humidity, which in turn increases the rate of evaporation. In a water damaged structure, dehumidifiers pull in the moist, humid air and then discharge dry, warm air. The air acts like a sponge, absorbing moisture from wet materials. We use refrigerant and desiccant humidifiers.

Deodorization Equipment

Ultra low volume (ULV) foggers will atomize liquid deodorizing agents, producing a fine mist that easily penetrates sites where odor-causing residues accumulate. The device can also be used to inject fungicides and disinfectants into wall cavities and other difficult-to-access areas. Thermal foggers dispense solvent-based products in large volume, dense fogs suitable for confined areas. The fog consists of tiny particles of deodorant solution that pair with and neutralize odor-causing particles.

With all the right equipment, SERVPRO of Hannibal is here to help you make it “Like it never even happened.” Call us at 573-231-0056!

Why SERVPRO of Hannibal? Quick Repsonse

6/20/2019 (Permalink)

  • 4 – Within four hours of loss notification, one of our certified technicians will be on-site to start mitigation services (if necessary).
